Important deadline ahead for Colorado municipalities! Now is a good time to start preparing for the ADA Title II website requirements and reviewing your website accessibility.
Municipal websites are often the first place residents go for meeting agendas, forms, public notices, permits, contact information, calendars, and other important services. Making that information easier for everyone to access, including people with disabilities, helps create a better experience for the entire community.
Under the U.S. Department of Justice’s ADA Title II requirements, small local governments must make their website content meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards by April 26, 2028.
For many municipalities, preparing for these requirements can feel overwhelming. Accessibility can involve much more than changing a few colors or adding alt text to images. Municipalities may need to review website pages, PDFs and documents, online forms, images, videos, navigation, and other digital content.
The process is much easier with a knowledgeable website partner who understands the requirements, knows what to look for, and can handle the technical work for you.
Preparing for ADA website requirements can be a big project, especially for small municipal teams already managing a long list of responsibilities. Websites often contain years of pages, documents, forms, images, and other content that may need to be reviewed or updated.
Starting early gives municipalities more time to understand what needs attention, make gradual improvements, and create a plan for meeting the upcoming requirements without tackling everything at once.
Munibit is a website platform built specifically for small local governments. Our team handles the website design, setup, migration, hosting, and launch, while providing easy-to-use tools and ongoing support moving forward.
