CML provides municipal officials the skills and education necessary for good governance in Colorado's cities and towns through a variety of learning opportunities (traditional in-person workshops, short lunchtime seminars, and convenient online
webinars) on numerous topics throughout the year.
The 98th CML Annual Conference, June 23-26, 2020, in Westminster, will be filled with opportunities to network with other officials, learn from peers, share ideas, exchange resources, and solve problems collectively.
CML believes that municipal elected officials investing time and resources to participate in educational events to increase their knowledge of municipal government and enhance their capacity to lead should be recognized. For this reason,
in 1991 the CML Executive Board created an elected officials leadership training program, now known as CML’s MUNIversity.
Thank you for your interest in serving your community through public office!
CML has put together a free Municipal Candidates Guide to help you understand some of the basic things
it is important to know as an elected official making important contributions to the shaping of your community's future.
CML publishes a wealth of information for members throughout the year, from periodicals with the latest news to
technical and legal research publications.
You may want to take a look at the publication Colorado Municipal Government: An Introduction. (Upon release, at least one copy of all CML publications is sent
to each member municipality; check with your clerk for what may already be available to you.)
CML also has recorded our Effective Governance: Resources for Elected Officials, a workshop that includes information on your role as a municipal official,
governing board and staff relationships, how to work effectively with the media, public official liability, and open meetings.
