Bud Starker receives awardThe City of Wheat Ridge recently hosted a special event to publicly award Mayor Bud Starker from Wheat Ridge his Sam Mamet Good Governance Award. Starker was unable to be in Breckenridge in June to receive the award at the CML Annual Conference.

Starker is in his last term, and it turned out having a special ceremony in Wheat Ridge allowed a large number of Starker’s friends and family from throughout the area to attend and celebrate his achievement. Starker was chosen to receive the award, along with Buena Vista clerk Paula Barnett by the CML Executive Board earlier this year.

Starker had only one request — he wanted his longtime friend and retired CML Executive Director Sam Mamet to be there when he received the award. Mamet spoke of CML’s early history in Wheat Ridge and some of the wonderful leaders that preceded Starker, but his highest praise was reserved for the mayor.
