The Town of La Jara would like to recognize and thank Larry Zaragoza as he retires from his position as town manager after six years of dedicated service to the community.
Larry’s commitment to La Jara began long before his time as town manager. In 2012, Larry began serving the community as a town trustee. He later served as mayor of La Jara, continuing his commitment to the residents and the community he has called home for many years. In 2020, Larry took on the role of town manager, where he continued to serve for the next six years.
Larry has dedicated much of his life to serving and giving back to the San Luis Valley community. In addition to his work with the La Jara, Larry has been an educator and has shared his passion for athletics with generations of students. He has served as a track and field coach and cross-country coach, helping young athletes develop not only their athletic abilities but also the discipline, determination, and perseverance that come with competitive sports. Larry continues to support several schools throughout our community by serving as an official for track and field and cross-country events.
Larry is also an accomplished athlete in his own right. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Adams State University in Alamosa, an institution known for its strong tradition of distance running. Throughout his running career, Larry earned numerous accolades and titles as an elite runner.
His commitment to service extends beyond the Town of La Jara. Larry has served on numerous boards and community organizations throughout the years and continues to dedicate his time to organizations such as El Pomar Foundation, People First, and many others.
Larry’s years of service reflect a lifelong commitment to La Jara, education, athletics, and the people of the San Luis Valley. While his retirement marks the end of his time as town manager, his continued involvement in the community ensures that his service to others will carry on.
The Town of La Jara sincerely thanks Larry Zaragoza for his six years as town manager and the many years of service, leadership, mentorship, and dedication he has given to our community.
Congratulations on your retirement, Larry, and thank you for everything you have done for La Jara!
