How municipalities are advancing housing affordability

Earlier this year, CML reached out to our members with a survey focused on land use and housing practices across Colorado. The goal of this research was to discern how local governments are working towards housing affordability independent of the state. We received responses from 68 Colorado cities and towns of all population sizes and land use and housing priorities. Across these responses, a few things are clear.

Housing affordability continues to be a stubborn barrier to livability and quality of life in many communities. While housing has been a focus of policymakers at all levels of government for years, it takes time for the impacts of policy decisions to make themselves known and for solutions to take effect.

Colorado’s municipalities are working diligently to address affordability. However, moving the needle on affordability will require coordinated efforts from stakeholders across sectors, buy-in from the community, and favorable market conditions.
