The Town of Avon has partnered with the nonprofit Vail Valley Foundation on the construction of an early childhood education facility in Avon that will accommodate 165 children under the age of 5.

Avon provided a 50-year lease on nearly three acres of land, valued at $7 million, along with $800,000 in financial incentives and contributions to the project, which addresses a known shortage of early childhood education availability in Eagle County. The groundbreaking drew large crowds, including all three Eagle County commissioners and state Sen. Dylan Roberts, in addition to Avon’s elected officials.

“This school represents the power of regional cooperation,” Avon Mayor Tamra Underwood said. “It really does take a village to meet the needs of the entire valley.”

The facility, which will be fully electric and solar-powered, has targeted an opening date in fall 2026.
