If you have a passion for leadership and service and are interested in serving on the Colorado Municipal League Executive Board, now is the time to begin planning. CML will begin accepting applications for board candidacy on Monday, April 6, and the application period will close on Friday, May 22.

Detailed information about the application process will be provided before April 6. Prospective candidates are encouraged to begin conversations within their municipality to discuss their interest and to secure the required council or board endorsement. Sample application and endorsement letters will be available on the CML website by Monday, April 6. Additional information and reminders will be shared in future newsletters, on the CML website, and through direct communications with members.

CML’s bylaws establish staggered terms among the 20 elected positions to ensure continuity, with half of the board seats in each category on the ballot each election cycle. Current board members whose terms are expiring may seek re-election, provided they meet all eligibility requirements. In 2026, the following seats will be on the ballot:

  • Largest Category (Population 250,000+): One position, two-year term
  • Large Category (Population 50,000 to 249,999): Three positions, two-year terms
  • Medium Category (Population 8,000 to 49,999): Three positions, two-year terms
  • Small Category (Population under 8,000): Three positions, two-year terms

CML Executive Board members are elected at large. This means that each member municipality may vote for candidates in all population categories.

Candidates who meet all qualifications will be placed on the ballot by the CML Nominating Committee and voted on by the membership at the CML Annual Business Meeting. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 24, during the 104th CML Annual Conference in Westminster. Voting procedures and other materials will be outlined in the Notice of Annual Business Meeting, which will be distributed to all member municipalities prior to the conference.

Population figures for the June 2026 election will be based on Colorado Department of Local Affairs estimates used to establish 2026 municipal dues. Member municipalities may contact CML to confirm their population category.
