SB26-1334:YOUR SUPPORT IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED
WHAT DOES THE BILL DO?
SB26-142 removes the unnecessary and antiquated voter requirement for municipalities that want to develop geothermal and thermal energy projects that provide heating and cooling, while still having protections available to all municipal utility users.
WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE YES
Thermal energy projects help Colorado reach green energy goals while expanding heating and cooling options for municipalities. Currently, there are additional costs and barriers to developing thermal energy projects on municipalities that this bill would address.
Most importantly, this includes removing additional votes that a municipality would need to start a project. This antiquated provision unnecessarily requires secondary approval of an action by an elected governing body and duplicates a vote requirement that would be needed for tax or debt authority.
YOUR SUPPORT IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED
Support SB26-142 to remove unnecessary restrictions on municipalities that want to develop or expand thermal energy projects.
