Owen Brigner, CML legislative and policy advocate, got a little bit more of an experience than he bargained for when he recently represented CML at the quarterly Adams County Council of Governments (ADCOG) meeting.
The City of Thornton played host to the meeting at the Thornton Police Training Facility. ADCOG meetings are primarily intended to bring together local government members from Adams County, as well as organizations like CML that count all Adams County municipalities as members. The dinner was followed by a guided tour of the full training facility led by the training unit. Guests had the chance to visit multiple areas of the facility and participate in interactive demonstration.
While some guests were able to experience the shooting simulator, Taser demonstrations, simulation demonstrations, and driving training vehicles on the driving pad, Brigner found himself on the wrong side of the law and ended up in a squad car.
“He fought the law, and the law won,” said Kevin Bommer, CML executive director.
As Brigner and the rest of the CML advocacy team work diligently for cities and towns in the waning days of the legislative session, they and the rest of the League staff still prioritize meeting members where they are at whenever possible. Regional and local meetings, like the ADCOG meeting, are a great opportunity to learn more about what members need and how CML can help.
