At its Feb. 27 meeting, the CML Executive Board approved updates to the League’s section structure to better reflect the evolving work of municipal professionals and streamline coordination across issue areas.
The Communications Policy Section has been discontinued. Telecommunications and rights-of-way policy matters will continue to be addressed through the CML Policy Committee, advocacy staff coordination, and collaboration with relevant sections including Information Technology, Municipal Energy Utilities, Public Works, and communications professionals. CML’s partnership with the Colorado Communications and Utility Alliance (CCUA) remains strong and ongoing.
In addition, the Public Information Officers (PIO) Section has been renamed the Communications and Engagement Section. Today’s municipal communications professionals lead far more than traditional public information work — including strategic communications, community engagement, marketing, digital media, and crisis response. The updated name more accurately reflects this expanded scope and welcomes a broader range of professionals into the section.
These changes reduce redundancy, clarify alignment, and ensure CML’s structure continues to serve members effectively.
