In a show of support for the West Slope, new CML Executive Board President Seth Hoffman, Lone Tree manager, led the 2025-2026 Board to Grand Junction, where he worked early in his career, for the Board’s annual staff retreat. Nearly all Board members were in attendance for the retreat from July 10-12 downtown.
The retreat was facilitated by Gregg Piburn of Leader’s Edge Consulting for the second year in a row. Piburn facilitated last year’s CML staff retreat and will facilitate again this year, as well. He has worked with CML in the past, as well as many cities and towns in Colorado.
Starting with CML’s mission, vision, and values, the Board spent time talking about the importance of CML’s role in ensuring that all municipalities are supported and represented. Equally important, in their view, are their individual and collective responsibilities to have a statewide perspective and understanding of issues facing municipal leaders. The Board also discussed relationships with associate members and partners, a new president’s initiative, and future advocacy efforts.
At the Friday evening dinner, Board members were honored to welcome Sen. Janice Rich and Rep. Rick Taggart, both from Grand Junction. Rich is a former county clerk and state representative, while Taggart previously served on the Grand Junction City Council and as mayor.
Board members left Grand Junction refreshed and enthusiastic about the year ahead. CML staff will have their retreat in August, and at least part of the retreat will be devoted to ideas to help the Board achieve goals set during its retreat. The Board will begin its regular meetings starting in September.
