As the 2026 legislative session enters its fourth week, municipal officials across Colorado are preparing for a year shaped by complex policy debates, tight fiscal conditions, and renewed conversations about local authority. To help cities and towns prepare for what’s ahead, CML’s annual Legislative Workshop returns Feb. 19 at History Colorado in Denver.
This focused, day-long workshop is designed to turn statehouse activity into practical, actionable insights for local leaders and staff. Municipal officials will join policy experts and state and federal partners for an agenda centered on understanding legislative dynamics, fiscal realities, and effective advocacy strategies.
“With signs pointing to both challenges and opportunities — especially around budget pressures and local control — this workshop equips local officials with the context and tools they need to advocate effectively,” said Bev Stables, CML legislative advocacy manager. “The decisions made this year will have real impacts on communities across the state.”
The program features a comprehensive overview of the 2026 legislative session, with CML’s advocacy team breaking down priority legislation and political trends affecting municipalities. Attendees will also explore what it means to legislate in a “year with no money,” examining how strategy, creativity, and strong partnerships can still move priorities forward. Additional sessions will address communicating the value of local control and provide updates on key federal policy developments.
The day concludes with a networking reception at History Colorado, offering opportunities to connect with peers and strengthen advocacy networks statewide. State lawmakers will be invited to attend. CML thanks Circular Action Alliance for its generous sponsorship.
Registration closes Feb. 9 — limited space is still available. For the full agenda, hotel details, and to secure your spot, visit the Legislative Workshop webpage.
