Committees

CML has a number of committees which meet periodically on important topics and issues of interest to municipal officials.

Additional committees may be formed or reactivated during the year as needed. Service on these committees is open to all elected and appointed officials and staffs of CML member cities and towns. Individuals desiring to serve on a committee should contact Barb Major at 303-831-6411 or bmajor@cml.org.

  • The Policy Committee is a standing committee that develops the League's legislative program. The membership includes each member municipality, section representatives, and district presidents. Staff: Kevin Bommer.

  • The Amicus Committee reviews requests to the League to file appellate court amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs to determine if there is a substantial likelihood that important law will be made affecting Colorado municipalities. The committee will review requests, leading to a recommendation by the committee to the CML Executive Board. Those requesting CML amicus participation, must follow procedures established by the Board. Staff: Geoff Wilson.

  • The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Committee replaces the Energy Issues Committee to focus on a broad range of sustainability issues at the municipal level as well as activities in state government. Staff: Geoff Wilson

  • The Sales Tax Simplification Committee examines sales and use tax issues, including tax-simplification issues that affect home rule municipalities that collect sales taxes locally, and other sales tax administrative matters. Staff: Geoff Wilson.

  • The Water and Wastewater Committee examines and recommends policies concerning statewide water supply and quality issues, monitoring the activity of pertinent state and federal activity, and expanded to look at wastewater issues. Staff: Kevin Bommer.

  • The Fiscal Issues Committee replaces the Municipal Issues & Trends Committee to focus on a broad range of fiscal and economic challenges facing both the state and local governments. Staff: Mark Radtke, Sam Mamet.

  • The Land Use & Growth Committee is a new committee that will focus on a wide variety of land use and development policy issues. Staff: Sam Mamet.

  • Conference Planning Committee helps plan and evaluate the League's Annual Conference. Staff: Sara Reynolds.

  • Training Needs Committee reviews state training and educational needs for municipal officials, and coordinates with other interests, including but not limited to higher education, Local Affairs and League sections. Staff: Sara Reynolds.
