Every year, CML's professionally led training workshops, annual conference sessions, and district meetings attract more than 2,000 participants. CML workshops are highly interactive, affordable, capacity-building training seminars that address a wide range of topics.
Elected officials leadership training program
The CML Municipal Elected Officials Leadership Training Program is recognized throughout Colorado as a quality training for local government leaders. Since 1991, thousands of municipal elected officials have enrolled in this highly successful program.
The Leadership Training Program is built on basic principals such as education, training and networking. By attending CML-sponsored workshops and conference sessions, elected officials accrue credits on their way to achieving leadership honors.
Any municipal elected official may participate, and is automatically enrolled by attending a CML training program. Participants select the training that fits their interests and needs. After completing each level, participants will be recognized in CML
publications and press releases will be provided to local media. Awards
are presented at the CML Annual Conference. The levels are: Certificate Level (complete 30 credits of CML training and receive a framed certificate of achievement), Leadership Level (complete 60 credits and receive a specially-designed CML leadership pin) and Century Level (complete 100 credits and receive a wall plaque).
Types of training
Webinars
Webinars are hour-long presentations that allow participants to view a PowerPoint presentation from their own computer while they listen to an instructor lecturing live via their telephone. Participants need a computer with Internet access and an open phone line. This is an interactive experience and participants are encouraged to ask the instructor questions at the conclusion of the presentation.
In-person workshops
Usually held at the CML offices in Denver, these workshops provide in-person instruction and range from a couple of hours to full day(s). In addition to covering policy topics of greatest relevancy to local government, these workshops often have a leadership focus, enabling participants to have live interaction with their counterparts from other municipalities around the state and share information and best practices to common challenges. These traditional workshops are inclusive of all costs, including meals and workshop materials, making them an exceptional value for attendees.
Lunch & Learn at the League
The Lunch & Learn at the League series provides educational presentations on timely topics presented by associate members with expertise on various subject matters.
